Self Mastery Dojo

Strong first.

Build raw, foundational strength first, as the primary physical quality that supports all others—speed, endurance, power, even flexibility.

1. Strength is a skill.

You don’t just get stronger by lifting heavier weights. You get stronger by practicing tension, posture, and proper mechanics—just like a pianist drills scales. Precision beats brute force.

2. Train with tension.

A key cue is “irradiation”—activating your whole body (e.g. gripping hard, flexing your glutes) to generate more total-body tension. This makes you safer and stronger under load.

3. Minimum effective dose.

You don’t need to train to failure. You don’t need to destroy yourself to make gains. Get the least amount of work done for the maximum effect. Quality over quantity, always.

4. “Hardstyle” kettlebell training.

The kettlebell swing, Turkish get-up, goblet squat, clean and press, and snatch are the pillars. Each is trained with explosive power, tight technique, and structured breathing.

5. Grease the Groove.

Instead of punishing workouts, you build strength through frequent submaximal reps. Think: doing 5 perfect pull-ups 5 times a day, not 25 in one shot. Volume through frequency, not fatigue.

6. Strength has a greater purpose.

It’s not just about aesthetics or personal records. StrongFirst teaches that strength is a tool to become more resilient, capable, and dangerous in the best way. Their motto is:
